Introduction

I am very excited about expanding my knowledge in the world of teaching this semester. I have been a nurse for seven years and my focus has always been in maternal-newborn nursing. My primary focus is antepartum and I have experience in L&D, woman's health, and mother-baby. I am currently working part-time on the antepartum unit at Baylor University Medical Center. I knew that I wanted to contribute my experience to the classroom and clinical setting by becoming a nurse educator.

Fortunately, I have the opportunity to work with Dr. Carol Arnold at TWU this semester. Her clinical and educational focus has always been in the area of maternal-newborn nursing so I believe she is the ideal preceptor for me.

Though I have clinical experience, I have very little experience in teaching. My focus for this semester is to teach a lecture in the classroom, instruct students in the clinical setting, and participate in testing and grading. My goals have been reviewed with Dr. Arnold and we have made a plan to meet each goal.

  1. Hi Jacquelyn -
I, too, have worked in women's health and love that area. Unfortunately, I was unable to get into a women's health course/clinical so I feel a little out of my element in the med/surg course I am in. However, it has been wonderful so far and I can't say enough about my preceptor, Dr. Tapler. I think she is wonderful and is teaching me so much. I also have no teaching experience so this course has been very eye-opening and helpful. I had Dr. Arnold in undergrad and earlier in graduate school...she is wonderful. Baylor is a wonderful hospital. I had my son there last May and the nurses were incredible...you're in great company! Good luck this semester!
